Finally got round to seeing this
Fave aspect was soaking in proper film, proper 90s cinematography
Some weird as hell aspects and some disjointed editing or narrative gaps - seems like a lot was lost in the edit of what is already a very long film
Basically I just want a house decorated similarly where it’s always golden hour and shit is going down
Pretty archaic, ghostly, underdeveloped female characters while selfish toxic criminal men pointlessly chase each other around…
As a history teacher I enjoyed the historical tourism (The Tour of PAIN, for everyone, audience included.) This is a neat thematic package, signalled by the title
The dynamic between the brothers was as uncomfortable as you would expect (good performances all round)
A few powerful/interesting scenes (big dinner table, smoking together, C camp)
Honestly got a bit bored with most of it - perhaps I don’t like ‘intimate, sonorous’ dialogue (can’t remember what review that’s from)
