Annihilation 2018
The Southern Reach trilogy is one of my favorite sci-fi reads of all time. Hands down. I reeeeeally wanted to love this film. I just didn’t. Hearing them reference “the shimmer” almost killed me and made me turn it off.
If I put the experience of reading the first book in the series out of my mind, which is really fucking hard, it’s an alright watch. Maybe ask me again after a third or fourth watch. Because I’ll likely keep watching it hoping I feel something closer to how I felt when introduced to the world the books created for me, but I probably never will.
