This film remains very good but it’s a shame about the ending. Tonally, it just doesn’t hit the mark.

Unflinching stuff. It feels so local and so specific to its community, that is palookaville I suppose. Tully is in a real bad place and I felt for him, as I tend to do with characters like his. He’s a man in pain and he’s used to struggling. The contrast between Tully and Ernie is simple but it’s effective. Tully takes Ernie under his wing and he likes it, Tully sees himself in Ernie but it reminds him, in black…

Nocturnal Animals 2016
A powerful movie. On the surface, Nocturnal Animals is a psychological drama with themes of longing and ageing and, further in, a curious thriller. It’s rather Lynchian, part metafiction. The drama peels away slowly, gradually revealing new layers. Addams, Gyllenhaal and Shannon are marvellous - all suggesting repression and damage. A strong recommend!
