An aspiring writer moves into a suspiciously cheap boardinghouse and is haunted by a possibly malevolent spirit. It's a story about the seductiveness of the supernatural and the choices that haunt us. Despite a weird acting choice (the writer's artist buddy has a strong country drawl the writer lacks despite them growing up together), it's a compelling chamber piece.

Black Beauty 1994
My sister would periodically rent this when we were young, and a couple images were seared into my brain despite not having seen it since the 90s. I bought the BD on a whim for a few dollars and am glad I did, because it's a compelling period piece. The narration by Alan Cumming is as charming as it is unnecessary; it feels like the filmmakers felt the audience would need the narration to understand the story and relate to the main character, and while they were probably right, I would love to see a cut without the narration.
