Nosferatu 2024
deftly combines an exploration of psychosexual pathology w/an occult religious plot – which is smth that i admittedly have learnt i dont really care to see explored in movies. the technical aspects were good to gr8 & lily rose-depp's performance is amazing.
maybe most importantly, this movie made me feel things – i felt sick, & awful, & heavy. the symbols of sexual pathology bled into one another in a way that made me feel defeated. i don't like how i feel after watching this movie, but that probably means the movie did its job.Translated from by -

this movie doesn’t subvert the tropes & expectations of a romcom — it gleefully plays into them to the extent where I just couldn’t not be along for the ride. it was just a blast to watch & i enjoyed it immensely! i’m afraid sydney’s accent will rub off on me tho.

i hoped that this would be a trainwreck — a trans story written by a cis man, a mexican story written by a frenchman, & it’s a musical? i came in expecting to be horrified yet entertained, but it didn’t live up to that — after the first half, the non-musical scenes (& several of the musical sequences) were all just kinda boring.

this is very close to a perfect movie. more dreamlike than dreams, more lifelike than life — it does all that a movie, any movie, could set out to do. this was already my favourite Lynch film, but on rewatch — after a couple years of learning how to appreci8 movies — i am even more in awe of it than i was before.
this movie is also personal to me bc, believe it or not, it helped me figure out my sexuality. you really never know where these revelations r gonna come from!
