Godzilla Minus One is easily my new favorite Godzilla film. With a level of depth unseen since the 1954 original, Minus One combines gorgeous kaiju visuals and action with tremendous commentary and perspective on wartime/postwar Japan. Stellar storytelling, characters you actually care about, and a monster design that harkens back to the best of the past while taking advantage of modern visual effects. Toho has come out swinging in 2023 with a magnificent new entry worthy of the King of the Monsters himself.
