As a sucker for a nice nonlinear story, absolutely proper. Somehow feel like it overstays its welcome after being tight as hell for an hour plus, but just a real collection of influences neatly tied together to make a unique cross genre ride. Would be a legit rewatch too. Real fun one, at least in my fucked up head.

Anora 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Watched it again before the rental expired because I couldn't stop thinking about it. The more I thought of everything - the amalgamation of all kinds of genre and the influences, the intersection of character study with socioeconomic commentary, the wedding montage with Ani's ride out of the club into the sunset, Mikey herself, the ending, the editing (god the editing). Why wasn't it perfect? It's SO perfect.
But as good as it is, I still found myself falling back…

ZeroZeroZero 2020
In a genre of which, admittedly, I will watch pretty much every show imaginable, this one stands alone.
Grit of Gomorrah, characterization of narcos, well shot with an absolutely fantastic score (shout-out mogwai) condensed into 7 hours with what I think is one of the best concurrent storytelling techniques I've seen.
It's brilliant, and much like my other favorite show this year (Watchmen) i would be perfectly happy to see it never return. Bravo

Killers of the Flower Moon 2023
Marty had a podcast before it was cool...
I was on the fence between very good and exceptional until some post-viewing reading, in which I learned that the original screenplay and adapted book were more akin to the third act; and this is where I think the shortcomings lie. The liberties Marty takes here are so well done, the writing is so clever, and the editing is classic Scorsese-sharp.
But that said "too long" is the age old Marty complaint…
