Ruled. Karloff’s “Wurdalak” from Black Sabbath with some classic Amicus Films vibes thrown in.
The human-sized marionette was so fucking dope.
Disappointed it didn’t play long enough in theaters for me to see it there. One of the most entertaining movies I’ve seen this year.
Not nearly as bad as I expected, although it was still far from good. Middle third of this movie really dragged and there was no real flair to any of it until Skarsgard started Crowing the shit outta people. Danny Huston criminally underused. Considering how the imagery of the original was so special to the film, lacking that sort of identity made this feel pretty generic.
Art meeting Santa was legitimately hilarious, as was his use of explosives.
Aside from that, a little bit tedious and frustratingly paced. Not sure where this series can go, as I think none of the kills here were as shocking as the centerpiece kills in the second.
Think part of the pacing issues is the amount of lore thrown into this, which is appreciated but not overwhelmingly interesting.
Still, an impressive display of practical effects and I like Sienna, even though I felt like she didn’t get to do much.

Saw this for the first time in close to 20 years at my local theater today. Forgot what a charming, lovely movie this is. Audrey Tautou shoulda won a bajillion awards for this movie, as so much of what makes it work is her reactions and expressions. Very darkly funny that she’s probably more known here in America do the Da Vinci Code than this gem.
