George Hamilton plays a very T***p-like character who has been ripping off investors like poor Ray Walston and getting investigated by Congress. Walston goes looking to get back his life savings, gets insulted and threatened by Hamilton, and nearly run out of town... but he is introduced to a mysterious foundation of do-gooders and their massive talking computer IFR (inspiring the titular nickname.) From there it’s a caper/heist as the team of good guys works on their plan to take…

    The 3,000 Mile Chase

Despite the title, we spend a good chunk of the runtime in southwestern used car lots and diners. But to be fair, there are some car chases and clever Cannonball Run-like ideas like using a schoolbus full of mannequins to evade the bad guys. The most original part about this is the ending. Without getting into spoilers, the decision a character makes is unexpected and what should be bittersweet is unintentionally funny (at least to me, but I’d been on a monthlong TV movie marathon so my judgment is questionable at best.)

In fact everyone in the cast is good, particularly Gina Lollobridgida and Lee Grant. Even Shelly Winters’ obnoxious braying is kept to a minimum.

    Mr. Ricco

The other Letterboxd reviews for this pretty much sum up my take on it. Better than you’d expect and Dean Martin is good in a more subdued-than-usual part. What I liked most about this was how the supporting characters are given little glimpses into their lives outside the movie—Cronyn going through a divorce, Cindy Williams ends up dating the guy at the firm, the restaurant owners trying to fix up Ricco, the other cop wearing a tux for the first…
