Chimes at Midnight 1965
Pacing and editing all over the place. Performances are often over the top, even for Shakespeare. Yet, it works. I don’t think I’m overstepping to say Welles’ Santa Claus-y Falstaff would make ol’ Bill proud. He’s perfect parts cowardly, clumsy and resonating… and in the end it becomes clear that Welles’ directing echoes these characteristics impeccably.
