Jesus christ man. I know there’s a lot of stuff to read into here about the two girls being representative of Fujimoto himself and losing an assistant maybe being about Fujimoto losing Tatsu to Dandadan and the obvious KyoAni attack reference but even just taking the story on its face it’s totally devastating. Immediately sat down and read the oneshot afterwards but honestly I think the movie is the superior way to consume this story.

A bit flabby in the back third with the relationship stuff but there are tons of killer jokes here. Idk why but I’ve always had some aversion to mid-aughts Judd Apatow movies but maybe I need to start getting into them. I might also just be a huge fan of Jason Segel tho.
