I'm typically all about invasion/dystopian/apocalyptic/sci-fi-ish thrillers like this (I loved A Quiet Place last year, and Signs has always been one of my favorite films), but Bird Box never quite clicked. A Ghost Story 2017
Sublime, and beautifully shot. A devastating window into the emptiness of legacy and nostalgia unhinged from a reality that transcends them. And yet, it manages to remain hopeful, even whilst depicting an unnaturally temporal afterlife. I'll need a second viewing, though, to determine whether that hope is truly earned.

It's always been difficult for me to feel genuine suspense while watching a film. I have to fight hard against the internal monologue screaming "THIS IS ALL MANUFACTURED AND PLANNED" in order to immerse myself in a story and feel the stakes and consequences at hand.
