I don't know if I've ever seen a superhero movie this bad... Mostly because it's determined not allow the characters to be superheroes…. Yet! It’s committed to saving all its interesting ideas for a sequel that is obviously never going to happen. So many baffling choices and bad lines/acting. On the plus side though, I laughed out loud at the movie’s many unintentionally hilarious moments!
It was cool seeing how We are the World got made, especially with so much primary source footage!
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
This film is very well made, but feels less artistic than the 1930’s film and less visceral than 1917. Ultimately, the changes to the ending, in my opinion, robs it of the haunting poetry of the original film’s final shot of Paul reaching for a butterfly, a piece of life and beauty in amidst of the death and carnage, and that final grasp at humanity being what kills him.
Also side note, the final charge the German general orders 15…
I went in hoping for a funnier, updated riff on Romancing the Stone, and I was not disappointed! Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum have great chemistry, and the comedy doesn't prevent both characters from having solid character growth by the end of the movie!
Also that Brad Pitt cameo was amazing.
