Two opposite ends of the same coin. I feel like it’s challenging not to compare Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Both are highly regarded on-screen legends with similar backgrounds and filmographies. This movie, to me, highlights all the subtlety and nuance of a great De Niro performance, while Pacino may get lost in excessive flair and bold choices. I feel like Pacino often leaves his fellow actors behind in scenes, while De Niro lets the world around him inform his choices. Cocaine’s a hell of a drug.
Martin Scorsese is one of the greatest living film directors. I find it strange that so many pieces of art these days can be heavily scrutinized and tainted by online backlash. How someone as talented and competent as Scorsese can be questioned on his views on cinema just shows the level of ignorance this generation has towards quality and substance. The film was great, Leonardo was great, Lily Gladstone was great. Robert De Niro struggled but persevered with his accent work, but otherwise, he was great.
Marvel took my money and kept me hostage in a dark room with strangers for a maddening adventure.
This movie felt like one of Martin Mcdonaghs plays come to life. The story itself is simplistic but in no ways dull. What if your best pal stopped liking you? let that concept snowball through a small town isolated off the coast of Ireland, where everybody seems to know your business and you have something fresh, light, sad and deeply human.
