Hugely enjoyable doc that is happy to just revel in the joy of Parr's work and genial persona without attempting to dig an inch deeper. Funny and fun, it doesn't innovate in terms of filmmaking but who cares?

Interesting little time capsule back to 1981 made from beautifully saturated and glitchy Betamax video tapes. The interview material is pretty standard Bukowski with one or two little insights. For me the most illuminating bits are the general chit chat between questions. For questions, Bukowski always seems on guard. A small film that turns out pretty big, a funny film that turns out pretty serious and a light film that turns out pretty dark. Beautiful, atmospheric direction that makes you feel you're really living in a remote Irish community in the 1920s. Superb, understated performances from every single cast member from the leads to the smallest make it completely immersive. A clever, funny, real and tender script makes every moment a joy. Even the soundtrack is perfect. A seemingly effortless exploration of friendship, mortality and the urge to leave something behind; I completely loved it.

There's zero innovation in the direction but it's unimaginative approach does at least allow the excellent acting of the entire cast to shine through. The writing is good and it was well paced.
