Fascinating double meaning ending.
Literal ending - She survived as a result of her dead friend coming back to life after her prayer, and killing the bad guy for her, letting her escape.
Metaphorical ending - she actually was killed by the bad guy and everything from the moment her friend came back to life onward was all in her imagination, calling back to the conversation they had about our brains playing tricks on us when we die, and the butterfly on the hand also suggests she actually died as she said she’d come back as a butterfly and land on people’s hands.
