Citizen Kane 1941
It’s the performance of Dorothy Comingore that stood out for me most this time around. She plays every angle perfectly - the ingenue out of her depth, the caged bird, the defier. She’s been almost completely forgotten because she was blacklisted for refusing to testify before HUAC.
I’ll be honest, this film always left me cold. Dunno exactly why it was different this time - maybe it’s all the holiday season emotional fireworks - but it hit me so deeply this time around. I was simultaneously left heartbroken by Kane and furious at him. What a tragic asshole.
