Almost 25 years ago as of this writing, the Abu Sayyaf extremist group went to Claret school in Tumahubong, Basilan and held the school’s students and staff hostage. Among those hostages was Rhoel Gallardo, the school’s director and parish priest of the community. Many of the hostages were eventually freed, but unfortunately there were casualties in the ensuing crossfire, including Gallardo.
