I should probably revisit this when I'm not deliriously tired—though watching it in that state feels weirdly appropriate in retrospect.

Inland Empire 2006
Probably the most dreamlike film ever made... How it switches between narratives and the "plot" (if you can call it that) seems to flow more on weird associations more than anything else, constantly circling back on different repeating elements, building and building until the whole thing bursts apart in a blast of absolute terror. It even feels like a dream after you're finished—I can't quite remember all the scenes or exactly what even happened—just the feeling it left me with...

There's a lot to unpack here, which makes trying to review it on the first watch pretty daunting—it's definitely something I'll need to revisit. A fantastic score and brilliant, dreamlike imagery (reminding me a bit of The Hourglass Sanatorium, especially the transitions), made it absolutely worth the watch. I'll certainly be checking out more by Satoshi Kon!
