  Absolutely stunning. I didn't love the novel, but this movie redeemed it for me and did so much more: the exquisite shot composition of Hale County This Morning, This Evening is there, and also the collage of I Am Not Your Negro (and all The Defiant Ones clips!), the surrealism of The Last Black Man in San Francisco (and a Jimmie Falls cameo!), the tactile qualities of Moonlight even.

  I like how the nature of this documentary (which is a nightmare for a cultural glutton like me) means that the Letterboxd consensus is mostly that Eno could have used an ad blocker when listening to Fela Kuti on YouTube

  I can’t tell if this is one of the best movies of the year or if it’s just so weirdly specific to my childhood that I’m just grateful that Annie Baker grew up where I grew up:
