A genuinely well done exorcism movie. I love that the demon is rarely seen on screen. There is a lot of shutting doors and lights going off or cameras flashing, all hinting at the spirits presence, without actually revealing it. This, in my opinion, enhances the creepiness and anxiety in the viewer; for indeed, horror lurks in the unknown.

Here we see Burr being perceptively honest with himself as he shares with us his gold nuggets of inspiration and introspection.

It’s so hard to pull off: bravely expressing yourself honestly with your art and your life. May we all have such courageous integrity.

“It’s kind of a weird thing to be over 50, and really starting to realize how fucked up you are.”

The body horror in this film is genuinely disturbing. Gooey, rubbery, awful. The rebirth of Frank, as he emerges from the floorboards, is a scene I will remember for a long time, just as the image of Pinhead himself, with his pin pricked face, shall also haunt me. The special effects place the film firmly in the 80’s and in all the best ways.

Remember: beware the toxic ex that suddenly turns back up in your life.

Fuck me was this movie boring. Started and stopped like 4x over 3 days. Refused to give up and kept waiting for the film to redeem itself but it never did.

Also, what an annoying prick the kid Tommy is. I totally understood, and almost cheered, the little shit’s spanking.

“Boy. You really need someone to talk to, don’t ya?”
