  Even it’s subversive for the genre of mystery or detective movies, and pretty well-made, I couldn’t be bothered to appreciate this film. Thought it a waste of time, would be better to watch some awful movies.

  Project Mercury was presented in a rather comical way, making the patriotism less noticable. The astronauts wished to defeat Russians, but they're also human beings trying to acquire fame and better life. For audiences who care less about the Cold War, The Right Stuff can still be an entertaining film. Footages of space were magnificent, gave me a weird feeling that Space Race did mean sth, and made the virtually one hour waiting worthwhile.
