One-note anti-colonial film that tells you exactly why "Colonisation Is Bad" the same way the Barbie monologue said Misogyny is Bad. Come for a Fun, sexy film but don't hold your breath for any political nuance or depth in story. The pacing was weird too I was dragging my feet through the last 20 mins. Points to Ylfa (Toni Colette) and Marshall (M Ruffalo) for being absolutely insufferable and amazing White christian nationalists!! And Rob Pattinson for a phenomenal performance

Hmm. That was the most cop out dramatically inept ending scene to the whole film. A weird fan fiction life story

A really romanticised (a little nostalgia porn-y) doc on the 90s Singapore creative scene, which may not be a bad thing especially with what little coverage we have of our artistic and cultural history. Definitely inspiring but hardly anything deep/critical.... Wished they could have pushed a bit more into some points that were brought up in some interviews - specifically gentrification pricing out (minority) vendors in Haji Lane, treatment of women at mostly-male rowdy gigs etc. Seemed like internal scene…

Hated it, contrived story contrived dialogue contrived acting chemistry - Hae Sun is an empty hollow man chasing the fantasy of a 12y/o crush, the white guy was just forgettable, and Nora's biggest failure as a character was how she was written with absolutely no interior life beyond her relationships with these two men (I see why it is mostly men who like this bc the "yearning" portrayed is so idealistic but actually just thoughtless and passionless) I was so excited to see this bc of the rave reviews but unfortunately it sucked. We are in the worst era for romance movies I fear
