This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I won't join the choir of enthusiastic reactions to this film. It tries to be everything at once and this is its' problem imo. Don't get me wrong, I've seen the newest 'horrors of coming of age' films - Raw, Neon Demon etc. and I loved them, so perspective of goth sirens singing their way through the human world in the 80s made me very interested but the execution of idea was... mediocre tbh. What I didn't like were sudden…

The Neon Demon 2016
Many people say it's a plain music clip with no sense, imo it is saying a well known truth, that the modern fashion industry paired with beauty ideals is rotten to the core but all this is said using ultra-aesthetics (and ultra-violence). The form of the film is also a form of a story-telling - it is an empty aesthetics about horrors of beauty. Refn did that, he basically made a horror film about being conventionally pretty. Scary, huh?
