my partner's old english teacher screened this as part of a unit of kafka's "the trial," which makes sense. but if the trial were populated by a bunch of ornery manhattanites born too early for nextdoor, several colorfully liberated (if vaguely misogynist in aggregate) club kids and barflies, and the guy who bragged to the new york times that all mr. softee trucks are armed with a bat.

you can really tell who watched this on its own terms and who watched this because sky ferreira is in it. this is prescient and purposefully observed and didn’t seem as voyeuristic as it could even with the documentary framing; but also, sky ferreira sings whitney houston and there’s a full jeremih song.
