It’s a shame because the themes weren’t bad but it’s just that this framing and interrogation of them did very little for me. Not sexy as much as frustrating.

A deeply endearing film that makes ideology so prosaic and everyday in our material and social experience. I felt deeply invested in the charade and entertained by the endless capitalism slander.

This film was made even more enjoyable by hearing from the director himself during the Q&A. One thing that deserves credit is the deliberate decision to film only in public spaces and highlight the anxiety that interfacing with public institutions causes most people. I also appreciated the subtle thesis of innocence hardly being an individual question in structures of oppression. The leaps in the protagonist’s personal ethics seem a bit far fetched for 24 hours, but I appreciated Tülin Özen‘a performance. Clearly a year for powerhouse performances in courtrooms.

because I promised that I would write my thoughts here: sweet, melancholic, tender, even when the pacing seemed off at times. a reminder of how relationships are refracted through our notions of self, culture, language and how the many timelines of life on some level co-exist always. a movie that grows in your mind many hours after you watch it.
