Gladiator II 2024
MID compared to the first one honestly. This is definitely a film that didn’t need to be made even though it was still a good and fun watch. Denzel Washington was incredible as usual and he really helped carry the movie. His character arch was more unpredictable and intriguing to watch. But for some reason this still felt like a cash grab and not a passion project like the first one. I was disappointed in the cinematography and how lazy it seemed. This seemed like another soulless yet entertaining blockbuster movie.

The Substance 2024
Feminist horror at its finest. So disturbing and real. It reminded me of a lot of Japanese and Korean horror I’ve seen based on the pacing and how the color contribute to the story telling. It was beautifully shot and the practical effects were amazing. I’m so happy to see the use of them especially in this context.
A feminist horror film using body horror as a catalyst is on the nose with the internal battle we feel with our bodies. And how men love to monetize that struggle.
