Nosferatu 2024
I can find no ground for maintaining strict distinctions between relative, instrumental, extrinsic, and intrinsic value. Thus, I must refuse any critical demand to appraise Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu “on its own terms,” that is, in isolation from its aesthetic tradition, religious politics, or social impact. Eggers’ stab at the Dracula mythos is truly assessable only in the dialectics of its filiation; every moment in Eggers’ rendition is either an affirmation or a reproof of a moment in Werner Herzog’s.

Avatar: The Way of Water 2022
This is a balanced review.
Positives:
1. My favorite part was their decision to leave their community to avoid endangering them so they could endanger a tribe of peaceful strangers instead.
2. I was so inspired when the Chief’s wife insisted on joining the fight despite her advanced stage of pregnancy.

John Wick: Chapter 4 2023
Sh*tty, sh*tty, bang, bang.
This nearly 3 hour-long video game cut scene is just one shallow, meaningless, tedious gunfight after another. Wick is less than a ghost of a character. His generic, insubstantial objective of “attaining freedom” doesn’t even require him to take down the corrupt system by the end, rendering all the carnage of the franchise absolutely pointless. Skarsgard’s accent is laughably bad. The appropriation of Christian symbolism is just weird. Not even the badass stunt dog can save this car crash of a movie.
