  “you’re crying over anchovies?”

  I must’ve cried 7 times throughout this film. I saw my own family’s history played out on screen before me... A husband blind with ambition (my agong, my dad’s father) whisking away his wife (my ama, my dad’s mother) to a completely foreign place. I saw in David my dad’s desperation to assimilate to american culture, preferring corn syrup-filled lollipops to water chestnuts from grandma.
