The French Dispatch 2021
MAYBE WITH GOOD LUCK, WE'LL FIND WHAT ELUDED US IN THE PLACES WE ONCE CALLED HOME.
Although a seemingly over-stylized film, The French Dispatch is not only a slept-on movie but also something you should sleep on. The multiplicity of layers behind the overlapping storylines makes it hard to observe the themes at an initial glance (the editors, the newspaper itself, the stories from the paper, and the characters within).
It's a story all about why we break the rules.…

I THINK IT'S NICE WE SHARE THE SAME SKY.
Yes. I came back to actually write a review because this movie has been lingering in my mind since last night; I dreamed even dreamed of it. I thought it was pretty mediocre yesterday after I watched it but for some reason it just felt so real and likeable. It's because it isn't exaggerated, and that's what makes it truly remarkable. I also didn't know this was based on the directors story and that just adds so much to it. I will definitely be rewatching this whenever it comes to streaming.

i love how uncomfortable and unapologetically hopeful/hopeless i was to see things work their way out and not return to normal. at the end of the day i think about this a lot - where once the spectacle is over, all the dust settles. ppl go back to their 9-5, dreams and aspirations continue to linger, and all that has changed is implanted memories and a few physical relics. i waited for the “good ending” and had to accept the fate of reality.
this is all they know - and all they are willing to accept.
