I watch action movies when I'm sad.
I did it. I watched the Last of the Mohicans. And discovered that this wasn’t as ridiculous as The Last Samurai.
This was more of a colonizer/colonized epic than a “Mann” movie. More romantic and sweeping, but I also think that’s because of the score. The forest and landscape shots were brilliant. I felt the raw unbridled possibility and fear spring up in every shot, which is pretty Mannly, just in a different way.

I have Tom Hulce’s laugh stuck in my head and it won’t go away. I believe both men drove each other mad, in the end of this film. What a sad ending, but wonderfully told. And what a dedication to the madness of genius (even if the history is inaccurate).

I lucked out in grabbing tickets to see Oppenheimer at the IMAX theater in NYC and I finally understood what all the hubbub was about. I've now seen it at home, in 70mm on opening weekend, and finally in IMAX!
