Muddled retread of the themes from Okja and Snowpiercer but lacking the zeal and focus of either. Ended up kind of bored when I wasn't feeling disturbed by the lighthearted infanticide/maiming.
Kai, girl: maybe you need to be single for a while.
Umm... despite sadistically teasing us with Christine Baranski only to leave us aching for more... I liked it??
It's tricky subject matter but I loved that the focus stayed on Elizabeth and let us experience her conflicted feelings about this very dysfunctional but still compelling relationship. We really follow her down that slow slide into total abandon, that confusing feeling of "I REALLY shouldn't, but I REALLY want to, but DO I really want to?"
Her shame and agony over seeing Farnsworth was a gut punch and I thought it did a great job selling that moment of dawning realization.
I love movies about old people. This one was real janky at times but it had a great heart and featured a dream cast of every single plausibly italian and/or jewish character actor over 60. Jessica Tandy and Sylvia Sidney stole the show and it's criminal that we never got a spinoff.
