Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 2024
Lacks any cohesive story. Too many characters. The ex-wife was barely in the film so what’s the point in her character? Why does Beetlejuice break off into Spanish? Why is Beetlejuice’s cursing bleeped like a TV show? Why is Beetlejuice less nasty than he was 30 years ago?
The characters are completely different from the original. Too much going on! Wtf is the soul train?!Too goofy. Too American. Too modern.
It’s like they wanted to plug as many references…

I watched this after reading King’s novella.
Renfro’s acting and command of facial expressions are incredible. He captures the empty insanity behind Todd’s eyes perfectly. It’s just how I imagined when reading it.
The change of ending was a surprise. Sure, the focus on Todd’s perverse taste for murder was removed which means this movie’s ending made more sense. These changes mean that there is less redemption from the original story and more thrills as to who won… and what…
