I'd never heard of Desmond Doss before watching this movie - such an incredible story. I felt that Andrew Garfield's performance was beautiful and understated and probably one of his best, though a lot of the battle scenes were gratuitous and out of line with the beliefs of the main character and the overarching tone of the movie.
