I used to wonder if my admiration for Danny Boyle is too superficial, if he just fills his films with cool shots and that's it. But there is this pure excitement for the material oozing through his form. The creativity and sheer enthusiasm present in his direction here elevate Garland's often too-allegorical-for-its-own-good writing.
