  this rules. feels like when an animator makes a film and for a moment you get so caught up in the joy of movement and creation that you forget that its just kinda things occurring. Same feeling as when you and your friends roll a big rock down a hill and for a moment you all stop to watch. Absolutely gorgeous effects work im glad they made this back when the dollar had value

Ive always felt a significant disconnect between myself and this sort of film and this movie made me realize that you kinda need to be buying into (or at least able to suspend your understanding to support) the angle of traditional masculinity as a protective force of good in order to get much out of this.   cant say its a good movie but its a cute one!
  i kinda wish the dark, morbid humor of the first act kept up but i get why it didn't, and shit some of the stuff they got away with was impressive on its own. plus the art design itself was awesome and anything directly tied to the central concept was great.
  the problem is that the second half of the movie starts to tangle itself up in tropes it…

  when me and my brother were like 5 and 7 we drew out a rube goldberg trap for if a burglar broke into the house and it involved dropping him into a chute lined with cacti and pelting him with rocks for an unspecified amount of time. my brother probably assumed that would go on until the cops came or something but i tbh wanted it to go until he died
