    By summoning the deep-rooted power of Catholic tradition, this political thriller flawlessly captures the overbearing spiritual weight of a very real world and its immense global consequences. The rich colour pallet and drawn-out drama added many layers to this already layered faith vs faith story, one which crushes the audience using an atmosphere of intensity alone. I was frozen in place until the credits rolled, and since then, I haven't stopped applauding such an absolute masterwork of cinematic craft. Make no mistake, I loved Anora as much as the next person, but Conclave should have won the Best Picture Oscar.

Much like the artist himself, the film shunned any flashy stylistic tricks and overproduced musical numbers. Instead, it did its best to faithfully nail this once-in-an-eternity songwriter who is the perfect movie subject due to his decades of further material that could easily milk out a franchise.     Unless you've rubbed your face in the muck at the bottom of the addiction pit, you don't have much leeway to criticise this biographical drama. Due to many lost youthful years from misguided decisions, it's a world I understand well, and Timothée Chalamet's performance was so heartbreakingly authentic that a lot of my forgotten pain resurfaced.
