  Les Misérables 2019

  Raised themes that are relevant to so many contexts, including my own in the Philippines. Prior to this, I only saw France for its rich culture and long history of indulging in the arts. The citizens of the French suburbs, who fall victim to police brutality, truly deserve this film.

  Mundane History 2009

  Just like a lot of my favorite films, Mundane History was gentle and meditative in nature. I found it particularly fascinating because of its immersive sound accompaniment which tied together the dissonant activities of its simple narrative. I actually stayed through the whole end credits because of the music.

  Yasujirō Ozu‘s minimalist masterpiece on the decay of traditional family values in light of Japan’s post-war modernization. This really made me reflect on how much of a dick I’ve been to my parents.
