  short and sweet and more straightforward than i was expecting, which was surprisingly a good thing in this case; it was pretty refreshing in how unpretentious it felt, striving for a kind of sincere simplicity that ends up being really charming. it wears its themes on its sleeve, but the script is smart enough that the on-the-nose dialog comes off as cleverly self aware rather than condescending. all in all it was such a fun watching experience, with a lot of genuinely hilarious moments and excellent performances from everyone involved.

  "he wants this to be over" yeah kid so do i.

  there's a laundry list of issues with this film, but its biggest sin is just that it's boring. there were glimpses of something potentially interesting and unique that managed to reel me back in when i found myself drifting, but those little moments were ultimately opaqued by the unfocused nature and repetitive rhythm of the movie.
