The Lost World: Jurassic Park 1997
The big flaw of this movie is the shift in genre from the first from “horror” or suspense to adventure in this one.
Still though, even as one of Spielberg’s biggest misfires it’s still on par with or better than the average blockbuster these days. For instance, it’s probably better than Twisters and Deadpool and Wolverine and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, some of my favorites of summer 2024.

The tension and the scares and the production design and the brilliant shot composition and the slow build pace/patience and the characters…all so much better on a big screen.
A perfect movie to start with but an even more perfect movie going experience with an audience full of nervous, on-the-edge-of-their-seat viewers all trying to hold their breath at once. Incredible

I’m not sure that it holds together by the end, on a plot point to plot point, A to B to C, level.
What I AM sure of though is that that doesn’t remotely matter. What matters is that this is likely to be the funniest movie of the year. What matters is that it’s just dripping with creativity and imagination and wonder. What matters most is the truth in the emotion of those moments.
And all those levels, Barbie is an incredible success and one of my favorite movies of the year.
