An at times overly pretentious, but more often funny and insightful, midlife crisis movie about a college professor and celebrated author.
The script is pretty clever and fun while the cast is great. Pretty good overall, but unfortunately nothing special
Perfect tone, blends an easily digestible sci fi concept for a wide audience with just the right balance of dramatic stakes to laugh out loud comedy.
A precursor to the MCU
The tension and the scares and the production design and the brilliant shot composition and the slow build pace/patience and the characters…all so much better on a big screen.
A perfect movie to start with but an even more perfect movie going experience with an audience full of nervous, on-the-edge-of-their-seat viewers all trying to hold their breath at once. Incredible
I’m not sure that it holds together by the end, on a plot point to plot point, A to B to C, level.
What I AM sure of though is that that doesn’t remotely matter. What matters is that this is likely to be the funniest movie of the year. What matters is that it’s just dripping with creativity and imagination and wonder. What matters most is the truth in the emotion of those moments.
And all those levels, Barbie is an incredible success and one of my favorite movies of the year.
