  This movie is so divisive, and I get it. Plot stories that come and go and don't get resolved. An unlikeable and unreliable narrator. Weird magical realism elements. But I love it. Every time I watch it, I can't stop thinking about it for days after. The humor, the horror (the owls kiss!), the Easter eggs (the Easter eggs!!!), the music, the ode to neo-noirs and gumshoe detective stories. The layers in this movie keep me asking so many questions, and although some things may never make sense, I am so in for the ride.

  This is my first Kurosawa so maybe I'm missing something? But this was not for me. Visually stunning and obviously an achievement, but the movie really dragged, and the over the top elements were more distracting than engaging. Maybe this just isn't my genre and in that case the movie might have had an uphill battle to begin with, but there just wasn't enough here to get me on the five star train.

  What are you, prospecting?

  Will never tire of the dynamic between Columbus and Tallahassee. And that opening credit sequence? I remember the first time I saw the movie, thinking: YES. This is how you start a zombie movie.

  Also a shout out to the late 2000s indie gems on the soundtrack- just perfect.
