A Month in the Country 1987
everything in this movie is suffused in this dreamy, melancholic glow and it’s perfect. i love the novel this is based on so so much, but wish they hadn’t changed the ending, which basically undoes a lot of the beauty and tragedy of the novel’s themes. this is basically a movie about how it feels to live in england for the summer and have it be the best thing that’s ever happened to you in your life that you’ll never get back (literally me). downton abbey cast member jumpscare.

of course this beautiful yet sparse 70s western set in a snowy turn of the century mining town has a leonard cohen soundtrack. this is like exactly what you get if you tried to make a movie out of a leonard cohen song and it rocks.
