Get on the Bus 1996
You don't hear about this one very much and I think it's a shame because it's a fantastic film through and through. You get a road trip movie, Socratic dialogue about blackness in America in world history, and a look at a true event in American history. We have an ensemble cast this time and we get to meet many people and see many different lives. The movie feels longer than it is, not because it's slow but because it feels like we learn so much about all of the characters. This has to be one of Spike's more underrated films.

Girl 6 1996
What I appreciated most from this film was its compassion toward sex workers. Spike Lee's films are typically fairly male driven but this is one told solely from the woman's perspective, in all its guts and glory. I really liked the cast, particularly Theresa Randle who I think gives a great, multifaceted performance.

#22. 1970s regional US filmThere is definitely a tone issue in this film. The scenes with the killer, The Phantom, are all good and scary. There is a lack of finesse and professionalism in the way he attacks his victims. I also found it interesting that we watch him "mature" as a criminal, moving from a possible kink to cold blooded murder.
