Ambitious idea, but still, we've more or less seen this one before. A certain unforgettably harrowing New French Extremist film that the reader already knows about or would never want to watch explored largely the same ideas: the search for spiritual meaning and the depravity that can sometimes induce.
Heretic and it's muddy philosophical journey do not add much. The tension builds effectively for the first half of the film, but fails to hold interest into the third act.
