Wonka is, at times, a pretty cliché film that doesn’t need to exist. Moreover, the somewhat weak narrative doesn’t feel very connected to the 1971 classic as much as it tries to convince the audience it is. The work lacks the philosophy of its source film. Still, despite this, the distinct vision from Paddington director Paul King, vibrant characters, and stylish charm offset the film’s unevenness. (6.5/10)
