Piece By Piece 2024
The LEGO gimmick certainly makes this documentary unique, but it often times feels like an obstacle rather than a stepping stone. The times where this film is trying to be somber or thoughtful are diluted by the visuals.

Trap 2024
A lot of the plot contrivances/conveniences and wonky dialog get written off as a quirk of Shyamalan. If it was another director, people would probably view these as bigger negatives instead of quirks. The cinematography in this goes hard though and the shots feel very intimate.

Sing Sing 2023
Sing Sing is undoubtably the best use of 16mm film I’ve seen. The choice to use 16mm makes the entire film feel grounded and sincere. Most of the discussion around Sing Sing will focus on the acting performances, but its cinematography is subtle and often times heart wrenching.
With that said, Colman Domingo delivers his best performance to date and Clarence Maclin turns in one of the most memorable supporting performances of the year. Watch out for this film at the Oscars, particularly in the Best Actor category.
