So the trailer for this marketed itself as “From the studio that brought you Everything Everywhere All at Once”. Which is a wild way to say it’s an A24 movie.
I was hoping this movie would be more than the absolute surface level story the trailer made it look like. But it wasn’t. Will Poulter was fun I guess and there were lots of impalings.
I love Bong Joon-Ho and I love that he is making movies. I love that this movie exists, even though it will probably make no money.
However, I will be the first to admit that this isn’t his finest work. Based on how I’ve rated his other movies, this is #5.
Stylistically, this movie is most similar to Okja, but even more whacky. I loved Robert Pattinson’s stupid accent and I loved Mark Ruffalo’s veneers.

It’s always a great story when this visionary director has a picture of his magnum opus, but he can’t convince those squares at the movie studio to buy it. So, he risks it all and pays to produce it out of pocket because he believes in it.
