Really wanted to like this one more but it doesn't fully come together as either a "the name of the movie is the name of the baddie" creature feature or as "elevated" horror about family trauma etc etc. You couldn't ask for a better lead performance than Maika Monroe gives here, and on a scene-by-scene basis there's a lot of well-executed suspense, but the movie handwaves instead of develops the story threads and character motivations that would have given it real juice.

Wonderfully tense thriller that doesn't waste time with unnecessary exposition or subplots. Aubrey Plaza is fantastic from the moment the film opens, and watching the (de?)volution of her character never ceases to be interesting. The movie is focused but far from one-note, with humor, sharp social commentary, and warm chemistry between Emily and her main partner in crime combining to form a nuanced film rather than just a series of setpieces. After seeing this and Ingrid Goes West, I can't wait to see what the future holds for Aubrey Plaza.
