One thing I love about Alien is the claustrophobic production design that is rarely matched: the blurred visors of space suits and low-fi video signals from the planet surface gripped by storms. The dark ship corridors are filled with steam and flashing lights. The small details, like the eerie spotlight on Lambert before her demise, have stayed with me from the first time I saw Alien as a kid.

A turbocharged onslaught of bodily fluids, perversions and violence. The avalanche of audiovisual stimulation felt almost too much to comprehend in one watch, but it was better to keep things tight since there isn’t much of an actual plot.

    Shadowland

Shadowland is not really about the "Zone," its inhabitants, or their local belief systems in the French Pyrenees. It’s a 100% MeToo documentary, and also an example of how NOT to make a documentary.

The much praised soundtrack is just silly. There's a constant, gloomy horror score foreshadowing the twist of Richard's abuse allegations. Epic and heroic music plays as we see fingers typing out the social media post that accuses him.

The narrative is partly disjointed and clumsy, and…
